Self Portrait

Mr. Picassohead seemed overall user friendly to me, however, I am still waiting for the Mr. Picassohead e-mail to come to my g-mail account so I can link it to my blog. It has been approximately 15 minutes thus far and still no e-mail. If it doesn't arrive shortly, I will re-do it again.
Ok, I did it again and still have not received any e-mail, but my portrait can be viewed at Mr. Picassohead, once there, type in "scottjw76" in the search block or you can access my portrait here at Google Docs.

Online Graphics

From 1992-2008, West Virginia has fallen below the national average in mathematics 13 out of 16 years (81%).
For this assignment I chose a line graph from Kids Zone. The scale of my line graph ranged from 200-250. The reason behind this is due to the average scores ranging from 215-239. If I plotted my graph with further points (i.e. 100-500), the comparisons between the national and state test scores would not have been as noticeable or attention-getting, when the scale is as close to the lowest and highest scores, the differences are greatly enhanced and more noticeable and persuasive. The only difference between the 4th grade and 8th grade line graph is the range, the 8th grade range went from 250-290, but the concept was identical to the 4th grade graphing procedure.

Image Capturing

This is the second or third day in a row now that I have learned something entirely new. For this assignment I captured my entire desktop as an image, then I pasted it to Microsoft Word 2003 and saved it as a word document. The image opens up with Microsoft Office Word and its size is 1.58 MB. Once my desktop image was pasted to Microsoft Word, I edited the image by making it thumbnail size, then I utilized the "word art" key and generated some text about the image of the wallpaper saved on my desktop. I currently cannot find the eyedropper or paintbrush tools, but I am going to continue to look for them. I am also working on figuring out a way to either place this image on my blog or create a link to it.
With regards to improving student learning, I believe this function can be very beneficial to all the students. For example, when students are assigned history assignments, they could select historical images from the Internet and paste them to a word document and write a description of the image and what part it played in history and all the students could see exactly what the student was talking about without using a textbook.

Desktop Graphic

This is the result of my desktop graphic assignment. I chose to download Picasa 3 from Google Inc. Google has a short demo/tutorial about Picasa 3 that can be accessed from this link

Picasa 3 took 9.58 MB of storage space on my computer and took only a matter of seconds to download and install it on my computer.

I chose this graphic program due to it being one of the many programs and features we are utilizing via Google (i.e. Gmail, Blogger, etc.) I wanted to stay with a reliable and dependable system for safety and security for the duration of this class. The photograph you are currently looking at was downloaded to my computer last year. I uploaded it to Picasa 3 and did several features with it. First, I learned how and successfully inserted a caption on the photo (Ala Too.....Kyrgyzstan) and I also geotaged this photo via Google Earth). Picasa 3 has many features and I anticipate it will take me a few days to learn about them. What I liked most about Picasa 3 in regards to teaching/student learning is the geotag feature of photos. My content area is social studies and I like the idea of being able to actually mark the exact location on Earth that a photograph was taken from and then actually watching Google Earth pinpoint it. This is an excellent tool to assist students in learning about the world.

Social Bookmarking

After watching the short film on social bookmarking, I have learned that the three steps needed to get started in social bookmarking. The first step is to select a website for social bookmarking, i.e. Delicious. After choosing Delicious, it is imperative to install the "bookmarking and "tag" buttons on your toolbar. The second step is to go to one of your favorite websites you reference often and then click on the "tag" button and it will automatically bookmark the website onto your Delicious homepage for everyone to view. The third recommendation is to be "social" and share your favorite websites with others.
Social bookmarking is a form of utilizing the internet to store, share and manage information and websites with other individuals. An advantage to social bookmarking is that your information is not tied into a single computer, social bookmarking does not use a browser, but instead the internet and this allows everyone to access and view the information from any computer with internet access. Everyone can use your bookmarks and share them with their friends, etc.
